Grid Overlay

Is there a possibility that a new feature might be a grid overlay?  one that we can dictate the grid box sizes.  I know there are range rings, bearing lines, and sectors, we use those all the time of our team.  But it would be so very helpful if there was a way that we could add a grid overlay., one that we can adjust according to our needs.  We created on in map sheets, but once you add it, you are stuck with the dimensions that we first created it for, and if we change the map view by zooming in or zooming out, it completely messes up the grid pattern that we created.  I also realize that i can

I would l also be excited to hear from someone that might already figured out that workaround.

A 2nd feature would be one that we can type on the actual map, if there is a way to do so, I have not found it.  A text box object would be great.

for the web app, it is in the settings at the top.

for the mobile app, it is under display settings in the menus

I don't know what you mean by "type in the map". You can see public maps by typing in caltopo.com/m/"CODE" where "CODE" is the 5 letters or numbers that a map URL ends with. You might also be asking for a search function for those that have WAY TOO MANY maps saved/bookmarked. I would agree that  feature may become handy at some point.

Agreed! It would be VERY useful to have a custom Grid funtion that could create a grid where you can specify the coordinates for a starting corner, the dimensions of each cell, number of columns, number of rows, and if you want the grid to be just lines or if you want each cell to be a polygon.
We haven't found any reasonable workaround in SARTopo other than drawing it all by hand :(

Right now we use the Fishnet function in GIS to create a custom grid and import it into SARTopo, but that requires GIS skills which not as many people have.

    Desperately want this too.

This is helpful for drone and fixed wing where I can specify a bounding-box (rectangle or poly) that I want as an assignment, and put a spacing between passes (and even elevation) and have it auto-fill a path that can be taken. For a drone this could be 50 meter spacing, for a fixed wing this could be 2 nt miles. For either I could export it to KML and they could follow it. I know that Foreflight has something like this for SAR use, but we do not use that app for Ground SAR.

I'm not sure if this is what you are talking about but we have been able to create a uniform grid using AI.  In this case ChatGPT.  We have taken if even further and asked it to color any grid that has a specific feature like a structure in it a different color.

From a starting coordinate of (enter coordinates here), create a GeoJSON file that travels due East for 200 meters in 50 meter increments, and due South for 200 meters in 50 meter increments. The resulting GeoJSON file should be a grid of 50m X 50m square polygons. Each polygon should have a title based on its position in the grid where columns are labeled with letters starting with the letter "A", and rows should be labeled with two-digit numbers starting with the number "01".
