Offline access for custom source layers

Jim Lacy

All-

I'm working with somebody who is a big user of CalTopo... a tool I only recently learned about!  They want to use custom GIS layers in CalTopo, which I see can be accomplished through a number of means including WMS services.

Here's the rub: they rely on offline use in remote areas.  Can portions of WMS services be cached/downloaded for specific areas of interest?  I suspect such a capability is wishful thinking, but I could be wrong!

Indeed. Just ran into this limitation myself. Did you ever get a reply to this via some other channel?

    Hello,

WMS layers pull data from external, web based servers. As these are not stored in CalTopo's servers they cannot be downloaded for offline use.

    I saw this suggestion elsewhere:

"Print" a PDF map in as large a format as your account supports, with the custom map layer as the main visible layer. Then import that PDF as a Mapsheet. Map sheets get saved into your map and are visible offline from your phone.

    Hi,

This looks good solution - thanks for sharing.

I tried to implement but I didn't get the PDF as part of the offline map.
    maybe I miss something.

Did anyone success to implement this solution?

Your comments and tips are appreciated

    Thank you

    Boaz
