Rescue Information

Matt Dryden

One thing I consistently see in rescue situations is a lack of information getting to rescue personnel. Since many of us create a map for any given trip, it would be a really great feature to allow us to add information to our maps that would be beneficial to SAR. How I would do it would be to allow this data in two separate places:

*A new tab in Your Data, which would include things like:

Name, nickname, etc

Technology typically carried - cell phone, inreach, avy beacon, map and compass, etc

Health information - allergies, preexisting conditions, etc.

Vehicle information - allow SAR to find your vehicle at the trailheads with Make, Model, Color and License Plate

*Map specific information such as:

Start Time

End Time

Turnaround Time

Partner's Names

Post-trip plans - going to a bar, driving home, camping in the car before heading home

Specific gear that is carried

Perhaps this information could be somehow made private to the account owner with read permissions given to anyone with a CALSAR account. Or maybe it could be made semi-private somehow so it's controlled who could get it instead of having it on a public map. While I completely understand that this may fall outside the normal intent of mapping application, adding it to a map would make it very convenient for people to use it, hopefully increasing the likelyhood that anyone is given this info in the first place. Since many of us use features such as slope angle and terrain stats to safely navigate the wilderness, I think this makes it fit right in-line with the same goal.
