OSM nordic trails question
It appears that nordic ski trails in OpenStreetMap (i.e. tagged as piste:type=nordic) are not rendered into Caltopo's Topo layer, but they are available in the Recreation:Ski overlay. They are also shown in the TF Outdoors baselayer. My question is how often does Caltopo rebuild the Recreation overlay? Trails I added to OSM last winter are still not shown, so I'm guessing it's not very often. But I'm hoping they show up before we get snow in the Cascades this winter. Which may be a very long time from now :-(.

Hello, routes need to be tagged "landuse=winter_sports" to be shown on the ski recreation overlay. We are currently doing an OSM import so new routes marked as such should be imported soon.
If they were not tagged this way they will not be imported on that layer.
I'm confused. The "landuse" tag applies to areas, not individual tracks. OSM gives a warning if you try to add this tag to an unclosed area.
In the central Oregon Cascades I see that OSM has the area of Mt Bachelor tagged with "landuse=winter_sports", but none of the nearby nordic ski areas have this tag. Yet the nordic trails at some places (e.g. Meissner and Swampy Lakes) are correctly shown in the Recreation:Ski overlay. So it doesn't seem like tagging an area as "landuse=winter_sports" is necessary to have them appear in Recreation:Ski.
In addition, someone in the past added a few of the Dutchman Flat nordic trails to OSM (e.g. Water Tower Trail) and they show up in Recreation:Ski. I added the rest of the trails to OSM and I can see them in opensnowmap.org and the TF Outdoors layer in Caltopo -- just not in Recreation:Ski. I'm attaching two images -- the first is the Recreation:Ski view (with a few ski trails in gray) and the second is opensnowmap.org (with the additional trails I added).
Thanks for clarifying, my initial reply was incorrect.
"landuse=winter_sports" helps us show ski areas, not nordic or other trails.
For ski trails (like nordic) we need one of the following tags set: "piste:difficulty" or "piste:type".
The nordic trails I entered all have piste:type=nordic plus other piste tags (difficulty, grooming, name). And they show up correctly in opensnowmap.org and TF Outdoors, so I'm puzzled. I've been comparing my new trails to the few ones that were previously added to OSM and are displayed in Caltopo Recreation:Ski. One difference I see is the older trails have highway=path and the ones I'm working on have highway=track. Could this be the issue?
