Newbie Confused - - - loading times & Tablet Usage

Craig B

CalTopo Newbie.

Background:

I've been using Avenza Maps for 'you are here' GPS location while off-roading.

Also use Furkot for road-trip planning and some NF/BLM 2-track road GPX file generation to establish way-points as 'off-road routing' is limited.  Am hoping CalTopo will help to generate better GPX files for off-road usage.

Problem:

Avenza and CalTopo are/will be used on an Android Tablet with GPS chip.

A Test Map & route off-line download to the Tablet seemed to work yesterday.  Downloading the map files took 10X or more longer than downloading Avenza Maps. Today, reopened CalTopo on Tablet and it is stuck on "Loading . . ."

A)  What is it loading?  Yesterday's Map/Routes should be in Tablet memory.

B)  No CalTopo user interface did/has appeared . . . just jumped to "Loading . . ."

C) Have attempted to open CalTopo with WI-fi on and off - - - no change, only displays "Loading . . ."

Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong ? ?

    Well - - - Some Progress here.

Did a Forced Stop on CalTopo App.  It then opened normally.

I have been able to Download Layers of a second test map for off-line usage.  Both maps correctly load (a sane load time) and display with Route Data.  "Field" testing date TBD.
