National Weather Service Radar Map
It is an essential safety feature on missions with weather related events to have a sliding history window so the weather direction, speed, and shape can be seen up to an hour previously. A native CalTopo feature similar to aircraft which would refresh dynamically every couple of minutes is needed. Also, having the date/time of the current map would provide confidence in the data being viewed.
The current WMS weather map endpoints when used with the custom layer feature are unreliable as they do not refresh tiles accurately automatically and there is no way to manually refresh the map. This leads to a map containing composite tiles of current and older data and makes it unusable.

I agree this would be valuable and it's been on our to-do list to investigate, it's just that we have a lot of competing priorities. Providing an animated loop, slider or other means of viewing history would take some more effort than just integrating the latest radar data though, as it's not something we currently have support built out for.
Can you share the WMS links you're using for a custom layer?
