Bearing line improvements

moehlc

I already submitted these suggestions directly - some ideas I had for improving the usefulness of bearing lines:

  1. Allow them to be edited using the same bearing and range fields as when being created (rather than continuing to treat them as a regular line after creation).
  2. Support more units for range (at least adding feet or yards).
  3. Remember the last-used line attributes when creating multiple bearing lines (magnetic vs true north, range units, color and line style).
  4. Allow chaining of bearing lines - like when following a list of waypoints given bearings and ranges between them.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

We're in the process of adding feet and meters as distance units for the bearing line.  Remembering the last-used attributes is also a good suggestion that we'll add to our tracking board, although I'm not sure how soon we'll be able to get to it.

Unfortunately, all our objects become simple points, lines or polygons after creation, and editing a bearing line post-creation would require a pretty substantial architectural change.  This comes up most commonly for buffers, where similarly after creation there's no way to go back and modify the buffer distance.

I can see the use case for chaining bearing lines, but that would also require either some complex handling, or abandoning the current approach where the bearing line defaults to the center of the map (via add menu) or the point clicked (via the context menu).  It's something I'd have to think on more.
