Elevation data on right-click

Chris Finley

I understand why point information was moved to its own screen, the right-click was getting busy. Any chance of returning the elevation data to the right-click. It's used so frequently that moving it closer by two clicks and a new window would be very nice.

Thanks,

Chris

Can I get you to describe your use case for this in more detail?

The consolidation of a number of features into "point information" is a down payment towards some larger changes, and while I doubt we'd re-add elevation to the current info window, adding it to the UI that these changes are feeding into might be a possibility.  But, it would help to better understand what you need them for, and specifically which data elements (elevation only, or slope and aspect as well).

Normally if you need elevation data for a specific point, we'd expect you to use the coordinate display at the top right, for information on either the cursor or center.  Currently it only displays elevation, but as datum conversions become less of a concern, we've also considered adding slope and/or aspect information alongside elevation there.

The top-left coordinate display works well for the cursor location when using a desktop. It would still be nice to see and copy the elevation from the coordinate information card.

For touch screens (cell phones), a user needs to press a point for the coordinate information card and then select "point info". I do not use the screen center because the map's view window location is usually dictated by something else, such as my current location or a specific area that I need to view.

Regarding specific use cases (I'm sure have forgotten an obvious case):

    1. Check the elevation at some feature or waypoint.
    2. Compare elevations for gain/loss, possibly my current location or some other feature.
    3. Check points to find a tree line or snow line. In theory, you could use contour lines, but that is nearly impossible on a phone screen.
