Preserve trail distance from last point when snap to trail occurs (when drawing a line)

From the online help it says: "As you are drawing the line and adding vertices, watch the upper right hand corner of the map viewer. It will display the bearing from the last vertex you added for true north (TN) and magnetic north (MN) as well as the current length of the line as you move the cursor around the map."  Yes, this works, as advertised.

However, this box displaying the bearing and the distance from the last point, goes away when you snap to an existing trail, while drawing a line. 

Could this "bearing and distance from last point" box in the the upper right hand corner of the map viewer, be preserved when a grid snap occurs?  Would sure be helpful to estimate distance as you draw the trail (not afterwards), since you are usually snapping to existing trails.
