Do NOT change the default icon please!
If I add an icon and change it to something else then Caltopo assumes that I want the new icon as my default. This is never, ever, what I want. Maybe I went past a waterfall and wanted to mark it. Do I want every marker going forward to default to a waterfall? No. Please fix.

YES! This is very annoying and very time consuming.
If the past few years are any indication this is not going to get fixed. The development philosophy seems to have shifted to adding new features that add marginal to no value (photo waypoints, map rotation, etc) to the exclusion of fixing multiple small but extremely annoying deficiencies like this one, nearly invisible crosshairs, a "delete" dialog that does not identify what you are deleting, inconsisten scaling of items (markers, lines) between desktop and mobile, no option to sort the list of waypoints by distance from your current location, a UI that is not finger friendly and is downright glove unfriendly, etc. The list of small annoyances that have remained unattended to for multiple years is long. Caltooo's map quality is second to none and is what is keeping me around as a customer, but I do have to hold my nose quite a bit at the other stuff
