Yet another vote for this request. I end up using Cal Topo a lot mobile and being able to move it to the dash would increase safety over my current techniques.

I would like to request support for CalTopo through Apple CarPlay. CalTopo would be a highly functional addition to CarPlay, particularly for users who travel in remote areas, work in public safety, participate in search and rescue, or regularly access backcountry trailheads and areas where standard navigation applications may be limited.
CalTopo offers detailed topographic mapping, custom map layers, offline maps, saved routes, tracks, waypoints, and other tools that are especially useful when traveling outside normal cellular coverage. Bringing a simplified, driving-focused version of CalTopo to CarPlay would allow users to safely reference this information without handling or looking down at their phone while driving.
Useful CarPlay functionality could include displaying a selected CalTopo map, navigating to saved waypoints or markers, following previously created routes or tracks, viewing current GPS position on downloaded offline maps, and receiving basic turn or waypoint notifications. The interface could remain intentionally limited while the vehicle is moving to maintain driver safety.
This would be particularly valuable for search-and-rescue teams, wildland firefighters, emergency responders, forestry and utility personnel, hunters, hikers, overlanders, and anyone traveling on forest roads or in remote areas. Standard navigation applications are excellent for normal road travel, but CalTopo provides geographic and operational information that conventional navigation apps often do not.
CarPlay integration would make CalTopo more useful while also improving safety by allowing drivers to keep their phone put away and interact with navigation information through the vehicle’s existing display and controls.
I hope CalTopo and Apple will consider supporting this capability in the future. I believe it would fill an important gap for users who depend on detailed mapping and navigation beyond traditional paved-road environments.
