Forum design does not aid interaction or quick dig for knowledge

Dave Green

The forum layout here is off-putting. There are so many forums on the web that show clear organization of topic headings with many active posts visible in a clean clear hierarchy. Even ones based on freeware forum software with little or no script mods present a better overview and give a better sense of community. Surely things could be less opaque – more transparent.

    Hello,

    We work very hard to develop new features and keep the site and app updated and running smoothly. We're sorry to hear you don't think our forum is the best. CalTopo is a very small team of people. We are happy to have this forum here, and admit it may not be our main focus on the site.

    If you have questions you would like immediate attention on, email us at help@caltopo.com

    Thanks for your reply.

    I realize from past experience that administering a BB/forum can be time consuming, a drain on resources better spent elsewhere. I checked out a few different packages before settling on one that at the time seemed to have the best flow. ...Later I found a couple times that applying mods to present a more comprehensive view to users was kind of a PITA, but ultimately served the needs of casual and deep-level participants better.

    Regardless, I've met my needs with caltopo and appreciate it greatly :  }
