Geotiff georeferenced maps

Steve Fox

If I upgrade to a higher cost version of CalTopo, can I add my own geotiff or other georeferenced map files for personal use? I know I can use two points to locate a map, but the old maps I work with have to be stretched and morphed to be accurate.

You can load your own mapsheets to your account. You can also add publicly available mapsheets that you find in the public domain to caltopo to share with others.

You can't stretch or morph them outside of their original ratio like you can do in Google Earth.

Do you know if I stretch/morph a map that I've georeferenced in something like QGIS, can I upload that to my Caltopo phone app somehow?

You need to change the projection to EPSG 3857. Then upload as a map sheet using the web app and it will be available on your phone app.

Thank you Sam. I had created the geotiffs using EPSG 4326, working with maps in southern California and Washington. I'll redo them to EPSG 3857, then upgrade to Caltopo Pro and give it a try.

Well it's working great, other than some issues I had with QGIS. Is there a limit how many stacked map sheets you can view at once? It seems to stop at six.
