+1 here. I reverted to an old version of the APK because of this change.
It's too easy for mobile devices to interpret a pinch-to-zoom action as a twist-to-rotate action. There should be an option to disable map rotation altogether.
The ability to rotate the map was introduced in Android after 10.9.3. Reverting to that version removes the functionality.
I think the developers at CalTopo should understand that small changes can have a big impact on users. Introducing a change like this--or like the new 3D mode--should come with the choice to turn it off in the settings.
Yeah agree on 3d- wish I could turn off 3d option and also disable map rotation. I want north up always.
Hello everyone! Regarding accidental map rotation - we've heard from multiple users that accidental rotation during pinch zoom has been a pain point. So in our newest app version (1.14.4) we've modified the map rotation behavior to address this. Basically, we now require a larger rotation in order to get out of 'North Up' which should help prevent accidental rotations. There are some other small tweaks too, but they're a bit technical.
We understand that what was explicitly asked for here was a setting to permanently disable map rotation. But we'd like to try to address the root issue (accidental map rotation) in a way that doesn't require users to find and then turn off a setting. If the solution we've included in 1.14.4 proves insufficient, we're open to the idea of including a setting to completely turn off map rotation in the future.
So, go give 1.14.4 a try and write back here if you continue to have issues with accidental map rotations!
Thanks for the feedback

WAY better in 1.14.4, thank you.
Awesome, we're so glad to hear that! Thanks for having an open mind and giving it a try even if it's not exactly what y'all asked for.

It is better but... I still prefer to permanently disable it. It is easy enough to rotate the phone screen when map rotation is needed, just like you would a paper map. This feels like an unnecessary feature.
