problem importing kml files

I am all of a sudden getting an error trying to import kml files to Google Earth Pro: "Could not open file name.kml for reading"
These are files I have exported from caltopo and have imported to GE multiple times over the last year. But now suddenly I get an error.

Have there been any changes to Google Earth Pro that might cause this? I am using version 7.3.6.9796. on a Mac.
