First Responder account changes.

Orin Johnson

With the changes that have come as of the new year. I'm trying to figure out what functions (and what data) i'm going to lose.

When I signed up last April it looked like the first reponder account matched with the pro account for functions but the blog post "New First Responder Pro-deal Coming in 2024" implies that while they were close they never were a match. This will probably become a FAQ (features X Y and Z will be lost when the account change happens.)

I can appriciate the need to simplify the code base and account / billing information and that it wasn't an easy decision. I am also a bit dissapointed in the "quiet" announcement of these changes, the new features got a pop-up to show them off, while the acccount changes were less obvious in the blog post and the "your account" window, which one would miss if you weren't specifially looking for them.

    Hi Orin,

This currently applies to new First Responder Accounts. We are now offering a 50% pro deal off any paid subscription for qualifying First Responders.

I can't say for certain b/c I cannot see your email address, but if you have an existing First Responder Account Upgrade nothing will be changing for you until 2025. We are giving you a year warning. For this reason, you may not have yet received a detailed email with specifics, that will go out as you renew this year.

Please email us at help@caltopo.com for further questions on this.

My renewal is in April so that doesn't change things for a bit.

What does change is getting my collegues on caltopo so we can show it off to the higher-ups to get a teams account just got a lot trickier. I'm guessing procurement of a teams account will be pushed out 6-24 months at this point.

CalTopo Teams Accounts give access to everyone in the organization all paid features of CalTopo (basically a desktop level subscription plus additional team specific features). This eliminates the need for everyone to have their own individual subscription.

If interested in seeing how a CalTopo Teams Account would work for your organization, please reach out to us for a 90 day demo account.

In regards to what the free First Responder account offered:

It was somewhere between a Mobile and Pro subscription.

Mobile subscriptions allow for offline download of all layers (FR had limited layer availability)

FR offered some, but not all, Pro features.

The most similar subscription is Pro, however if First Responders only need access to offline downloads Mobile will work great.
