Automatic ending of tracks

mycobiont
We had a discussion in our SAR team yesterday about 'map pollution' from forgetting to end tracks after a mission.  Then after our training, several of us tracked ourselves all the way home, yet again.  I know this is user error, but I have a couple ideas that might help us out a lot:

1. Option when starting a track (checkbox) to end tracking upon return - functionality would rely on GPS coming within a set distance of the starting point for the track - say 100 ft.  This distance could be hardcoded, or better yet, configurable in settings or when starting the track.

2. Option when starting a track (time control) to end track at a specified time.  (Some disadvantage to this might be that a team returning early could still track themselves home while a team that got stuck out longer than expected might loose their track.)

3. Map bounds... I understand that multiple teams tracking on one SAR map works by giving those teams permission to edit data in the map, so they have full control over their app (the IC can't change their track during the operation).  This might be a more complex coding effort, but if the IC could establish a polygon for the Area of Interest, then perhaps the individual team permission could be bounded by that AOI?  Thus when someone head's home, their track may continue going in their own phone but would be clipped for the SAR map...?

Thank you for your consideration!

Gaia GPS has offered a feature that solves the type of problem you describe (by automatically detecting a significant change in speed).

Drive off detection - Get notified if you drive away while recording a track, and then Gaia GPS will also automatically select the the driving segment to make it easy to trim off in the track editor
