Import file with UTM coordinates

Jim Daley

It looks like importing a file with UTM coordinates is not currently supported. Does anyone know of a good route to convert a file with UTM coordinates to a format that works with CalTopo? Some type of online file converter seems like it would work, but I'm yet to find a good one.

Thanks!

Jim

I had 3 applications I was going to suggest, but 2 of them (router converter and route buddy) don't have working websites. That leaves only GPXSee as my last recommendation left. They're not online converters though, they're local.

What file format are you importing? Where are you importing from? A great utility program I use is for data translation DNRGPS from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

It is in an Excel spreadsheet, which I can save as a txt or csv file.  It looks like GPXSee wants the coordinates for the input file to be in Lat/Long. I am starting with UTM and want to export the file with Lat/Long so that I can import it into CalTopo.

Not sure about DNRGPS from the documentation. I'll have to give it a try.

    Thanks for the responses!

    Earth Point is your tool.
I don't know why I didn't think of it before as i've been using it for years.

I recently imported a CSV with UTM into Google My Maps, then exported it as a KML file. It worked, unfortunately CalTopo doesn't manage the extra fields of KMLs very well, plus anything over a few hundred points will crash the map.
