GeoPdf vs Mbtiles

I am enjoying the various features of Caltopo as it relates to loading my Trail Tech Voyager Pro with the trail maps of where we ride. However, I am not sure what the difference is between saving the custom map I create as a Geopdf vs mbtiles file for the same riding area. What is the benefit/draw back between the two formats while using the Voyager Pro? The Geopdf version seemed to blur more quickly as I zoomed in to read the trail numbers, but that may be a result of the dpi setting.
