Marine Vessel Tracking: AIS

Permanently deleted user

Has anyone cracked the code to bring in AIS tracking to CALTopo? We are looking to expand our CALTopo usage into our Marine units for Vessel Search and Rescue.

My agency performs a lot of maritime SAR and we would also utilize AIS for Marine Vessel Tracking. I have emailed the suggestion to the staff at CalTopo, but it didn't sound like they had any current plans to add AIS.

....just reviving an older post. Would love to be able to pull select units in for tracking.

Same? Seems like a lot of us could use this.

    CalTopo

None of us here at CalTopo are very familiar with the maritime space.  The integration shouldn't be technically hard, but it would help us to have guidance from people who are interested in this feature on AIS aggregation services with both reasonable coverage and reasonable licensing fees.  If someone can serve us up a good source, we can investigate integrating it.

I use MarineTraffic.com, I'm not sure on a license for CalTopo, but I imagine their basic data could be integrated for a relatively low cost, with the potential for customers to pay extra for their live data. Or, even if individual CalTopo users had to have a license with MarineTraffic it could work?

This would be super powerful for our island usage.

Good evening, AIS tracking for vessels is similar to ADSB for aircraft. Vessels can be tracked on various apps and websites such as marinetraffic.com or vesselfinder.com. Please let me know if there is additional info I may be able to help track down for you.

    Thanks
