Allow snapping to Parcel Data Boundaries from the Parcel Data Map Overlay
Very often when defining search area polygons, it would be extremely useful to be able to snap to Parcel Data Boundaries. Often a search area will go to an existing fence line or boundary, and we have to manually draw them based on the parcel boundaries, where snapping would make the process go much faster and be more precise to the existing data layers.
Currently when drawing a Line, Polygon or Area Assignment we can snap to:
- None
- Lines
- OSM
- USFS
- MVUM
- Hydro
It would be amazing if Parcel Boundaries could be added to that list.

This would be great for K9 searches too, we often search by parcels since we always have to get permission to enter the property with a K9.
I bet that would be great for K9 indeed! We had a very large recent ground search and would receive permission parcel by parcel to search their land by both ground teams and K9 teams, as well as UAS, so this would have been a huge time saver.
The other time this would be useful is when we are doing wildfire evacuation maps, we could divide areas by existing parcel lines.
Same here just last week, I had to hand draw the polygons by hand, I used the parcel data to make up my search areas.
Sidebar note to this discussion - I'd be happy as a clam if the Line snap option actually worked. Always seems to hang the app, even when zoomed in to a reasonable level, ie not an excessive amount of snappable features to process.
Brett - I've found that snapping lines to other lines works best when only one or two lines are visible on the map (ie all lines are hidden except for the line or two you're trying to trace), this is different than snapping lines to OSM where zooming in and out definitely helps with processing speed. In my experience zoom level has almost zero effect on the processing speed of line snapping, and I would imagine this is a bug.
Also, I'm no expert or caltopo employee, this is just what I've found works best in my experience.

On a second note as a K9 team we often have to limit our search areas due to weather conditions. It would be very helpful to be able to create a 1/2 acre square then be able to copy and paste it.
