Updating Desktop Download Maps
Wondering if there is a process for updating the downloaded maps on the desktop client. Our area is awful for cell service, so we'd like to load up the computers in our CP with our main search area. To update those maps, is it a matter of deleting them and re-downloading? Or is Desktop smart enough to update the specific tiles with changes when on internet?
(For mobile downloads, see this thread)

Hi Bradley,
Both the desktop and mobile apps require you to delete and re-download layers in order to get the updated layers. This portion of the user guide shows you how to delete downloaded baselayers on the Desktop Application (you will need to scroll down a bit): https://training.caltopo.com/all_users/desktop/download#download.
Then, re-download the needed layers as normal.
Thanks Rachel, follow-up question. When downloading layers such as the Map builder Topo or Global Imagery, even when choosing maximum resolution, I'm still not able to load maps as detailed as I can when online.
Are the downloadable tiles, even at max resolution, just significantly lower resolution than the tiles available while online?
Online, I can easily identify buildings and smaller details on properties. Offline, identifying structures is a challenge.
It would be helpful for us to trouble shoot via email. Please email us at help@caltopo.com and include the location and layers you are downloading.
