Locking a map

I have created a map that I use as a template or all of our operations. I open the map and export it as a copy to new map and name the new map for the operation. Is there a way to lock the template map so that people can't accidently use the template as an operation map and add items to it?

    Hi Chuck, 

    Do you have a team account? It sounds like it, so I will describe what we do. I have created a sub-team that only certain people have access to, then place maps like this (or maps from old searches that I don't want anyone to accidentally change) into this subteam. 

    Then, you and other people you give access to the subteam can still access the data, but not everyone can.
