Yes, I second this request. I repeatedly find myself trying to determine progress on a given line. Adding this feature would be great.
This would have been very helpful.
I eventually started dropping markers that I later had to clean up.
Thanks
Yes please, this would be amazing! I have been creating route points every 1km along my line, and then estimating where I am on my profile view based on these km markers. It would be super handy to be able to show live GPS location with a blue dot as is on the map to indicate where you are on the profile view. Thank you all the hard work, loving the new features that keep rolling in.
We're definitely aware this would be nice, and it's also something we'd like to do. The edge cases can be a little complicated, like figuring out where to place the dot when a route doubles back on itself, or how far away from the route the user can be before you stop displaying their location.
But mostly, I'm sure I don't have to tell anyone that the current in-app profile is a little . . . ugly. It's a homegrown chart, and we've largely committed to not making additional incremental improvements to it, but instead holding those improvements until we're able to rewrite it using an actual graphing library, which would enable a lot of cool things that are not easy to add into the current version.
Not to be snarky or anything but fwiw a "best guess" blue dot on the current chart would be a dramatic incremental improvement to the functionality of the app, while I frankly don't care what the profile chart looks like.
Am I going crazy or has my existing workaround of markers appearing on the line profile view disappeared in the latest version?

We used to show a full-screen profile based off the "terrain stats" dialog on web, which included marker locations. When we swapped to the partial-screen interactive profile to make it easier to translate between the profile and the map, markers were no longer shown. The profile might wind up being a little busy if it includes markers given real estate constraints on mobile, but it's something we'll consider. The change was due to swapping in a different profile component though, that we think offers a better experience.
The profile view on both mobile and web used to show markers and now on mobile it doesn't... As far as "better experience" goes it's now not very useful at all so the experience is worse? I'm not sure what I'd use a profile view for if it doesn't show the locations of myself or the things I've marked on the trail. I guess I can infer from the shape of a line that "there's the summit" but other than that...
