Crosshair in the center of displayed map

Boyan

And yet another feature request from me: show a small cross-hair at the center of the displayed map area.  That way when I punch in some coordinates and "fly" there I can see where I land exactly without having to add a marker.  This feature would also be very useful when adding markers ad hoc

It looks like Caltopo already does this if you have your settings set to show position at center on the desktop app/browser.

Ah yes, I also see it in the app. It is a bit too aubtle, difficult to see in brighter light too. Perhaps then the suggestion is to make it somewhat more prominent?

We need the crosshair to be bigger because you can't see it while working in a rescue truck

A couple years ago I posted that it would be nice to have crosshairs that are more easily visible against various map backgrounds, especially ones based on satellite photos. Searching the forum I could not find that post so I'm just bumping the request here.

I suggested a user option to pick crosshairs color or at least make it a color like, say, hot pink – so it would be easily be detected against such map backgrounds. Larger, longer x/y hairs would work too I suppose. Either way, I'd like to be able to see the crosshairs without switching to a non-satellite map and then switching back again.

I'm using caltopo on the desktop, BTW.

I would like to see an additional option for 'Show Position at': Cursor and Center

I still find it hard to see the cursor at times. Would be nice to have some control over its size or color or flashing or ...

This has been outstanding for 2 years and is trivial to fix. I have lost all hope that it will ever be addressed.

Hard to believe ways to have a more visible set of crosshairs has NOT been addressed after all this time. Don't many people use the crosshairs? Or is it too simple to want to deal with, not enough for a programmer to get excited about when so many more challenging asks are being put forward? Or is it so difficult that nobody wants to tackle it? Or is it that the request never reaches the ears or eyes of a programmer in the first place?

No, it is part of a pattern of ignoring user feedback and instead focusing on features nobody asked for and few use. I am getting tired of this and coming very close to cancelling my subscription. If the dev team won't do simple fixes why should I be giving them money. OnX is getting close enough and, unlike Caltopo, is not ignoring its user base.

There are several other small and easy to implement usability requests that have been ignored for years. For example, when deleting an item the app should ask "Do you want to delete <item> <name>", instead of "Do you want to delete <name>". In the absence of undo this reduces the possibility of deleting a track instead of a waypoint. Apparently this is beneath the dev team.  Or the app not making the icon selection when creating a new waypoint or line the default for every new icon or line. The list goes on and on, I can rattle off a dozen examples of small items that are easy to fix that have not been fixed for years.

The excuse is always the same, we are a small team. At some point I am going to get fed up and take my money elsewhere. Because if they are a small team and can't fix the small stuff, what hope is there for the UI which is the best the 1990s web 1.0 had to offer.

Not to mention that the stupid crosshairs thing often doesn't show up on the result map when using MAP THIS SPOT, until clicking on SETTINGS/SHOW POSITION AT CENTER and/or switching the base layer map.

Maybe this is something to do with Firefox since to log in and post here in the forum I have to use Edge : \

Anyway, it just sucks to do extensive work using this stuff. So much else is good about Caltopo, why they should neglect getting this stuff right is crazy!
