Creating a Line In The Mobile App That Snaps to The Basemap Completed

Breau

When a line is created on iOS, it would be nice for it to snap to the basemap instead of just having straight lines.

    Hello,

Thanks for the feedback! We are working to improve the functionality of the app, and this is a likely feature that you will see in the near future. It is a big project, and at this time I don't have an ETA. We will post on social media and likely on the blog when it happens.

This would have been very helpful out on trail.
Has there been any news on this feature becoming available?
    Thanks

We know it's a pain point, but unfortunately that's all I can say at this time.  Due to the way the existing snap-to code is written, bringing it to mobile basically means rewriting it from scratch.  2 years ago I genuinely believed it was something we would have gotten to by now, but clearly we haven't, so it would be misleading at best for me to indicate any kind of timeframe.  But it's definitely something we know about, and we agree that not having it on mobile sucks, and we would like to address it.

This would be the feature that would cause me to delete GAIA GPS and strictly use CalTopo but until then GAIA has to stay. There have been many times on the trail that this would have been so helpful. CalTopo has GAIA beat in all other ways but this.

Bumping this thread because I just heard a mouthful from a friend about the lack of this feature (vs Gaia, Mapy, etc.). Sounds like a critical function for many potential users.

I didn't see any new feature posted about this. But to appears to work now.
    Thank you very much!

this showed up sometime in the last month. it's cool, but make sure to always change it to none before completing the line. if it is left on osm or line where there is a lot of items, it can take a minute to activate. tablets are especially prone to this. once it hangs, just got to wait. Can't back out without closing the app.

CalTopo, please have it default to "none" so our phones dont hang so much!
