SAR-specific feature requests for large searches

Hi there! Our mapping leads came together to talk through some feature requests after a large search, and I thought I'd share. Curious to hear if other teams have similar requests, or if the CalTopo team is already working on some of these. Thanks for your time!

1. Ability to add new objects that are sub folders.
2. Ability for folders to load collapsed when someone clicks the link to the map. By default, they load expanded, and for a big search, it makes it hard to navigate the left side of the screen.
3. When doing a "bulk ops" to "assignment" types, add a feature to export that data to CSV. And include not only what is shown in the bulk ops window, but all fields for the assignments.
4. "Undeprecate" (not sure if that's the right word) for person resources? That was a huge help with 100 people. It meant we didn't have to manually type 100 names into SAR 104 PDFs again and again for each revision. Probably hours of time saving. We don't want this feature to go away.
5. Add functionality to resource feature:
-Currently we can import a list of people using a CSV file, which is great. But also want to be able to include a column for assignments (That part doesn't import or export).
-Want resource object to be able to differentiate assignments based on different operational periods. If we have multiple operational periods with multiple "A 01" search assignments, there's no way to distinguish that when assigning a person. We just see two "A 01"s and don't know which is which.
-Add bulk ops feature to resources.
6. Add ability to "snap to" OSM and LINES in offline mode.

Thanks again!

    Hi Emmi,

Thanks so much for taking the time to gather and share your feedback!

We do have most of this planned for future development. The way we are planning to do things might seem a little different than your exact requests when they finally come out, but we think we have a great plan that will benefit not just SAR users but allow for more control over the features so that other types of users can also get the benefits of SARTopo.

I don't have a timeline for anything, but please know that we are constantly working to improve the program. Some of the upcoming changes are behind-the-scenes and it may seem like we aren't doing much for several months. It's all in the effort to set ourselves up for big customer-facing updates later on.

#2 is already an option. Click on the pencil next to the folder and a menu will pop up with a check box to have the folder open collapsed

Ed is correct- #2 already exists. Check out the Folder Visibility section of the user guide for more information on how to collapse folders on page load.

Thanks both! We understand that some things may take time, and appreciate your work.
