Why would the fire perimeter outpace the hotspot detection (VIIRS and MODIS)? Perhaps the satellite data feed is lagging behind?
I'm referring to Caldor Fire heading towards Echo Summit tonight

The fire perimeter is the more accurate data. It is recorded on the ground or via overflight with IR and visual imaging. The satellites are subject to errors of various kinds. However, the timing of when each data source comes in to the program can cause variations like this too. Looking at it right now, things are lined up better.

    Thanks,
