I'd like to see the location of available water sources as a layer. Is such a data source already available in caltopo? I've found the following in OSM:

The location of available water sources is not available in CalTopo layers. I took a look at the link you provided and you can export the visible features as a KML, GPX or GeoJSON using the share icon on the left side and then import them into CalTopo. They will be displayed as map objects but it's a pretty simple straightforward way to display the data in a specific map. This section of our user guide covers import and export functions.

Alternatively you could explore possibly displaying this data as a custom layer, depending on how else this particular dataset might be available. I didn't dig more into this for this specific layer (you would have to do that yourself) and some of the options do require a certain subscription level but I think it is worth checking out! This section of our user guide covers how to create custom layers from outside data sources.
