Base layers different in desktop vs. app?

We had s SAR training event this weekend and I noticed that the downloaded version of Mapbuilder Topo had different roads (fewer) than the desktop version of the same base layer. Now I'm online at home, and even online the app is showing the same difference with the desktop map. This cause a little bit of confusion during our event so I'm hoping to udernstand the differences between the app (which we use in the field) and the desktop (which we use for response planning). Thanks.

    Hi Craig,

We update the online MapBuilder Topo layer approximately quarterly. This is the same layer used by all versions of the software (web/desktop/mobile app). Currently we update offline tiles for MapBuilder Topo less frequently so some differences between offline and online tiles are not entirely unexpected although in general they should be pretty minor.

Of note, we are planning to do some work that hopefully will decrease or remove the period of time where offline tiles don't match online tiles.

Hope that helps shed some light on it!

    Meghan,

Now you have me thinking about the tiles we download. When tiles are
updated at your end, do they automatically update on our devices when we
connect to SARTopo or should we periodically download the tiles again to
make sure we have the most current maps?

    Thanks!

    Craig,

Currently we don't publish how recently tiles have been updated or have any method for easily updating them. If you want to ensure that you have the most up to date tiles, then periodically deleting and downloading the tiles again when you notice major changes would be a good practice for the meantime.

Apologies I don't have a better solution for you at this time!
    Thanks for using SARTopo,
    Meghan
