I am super new to CALTOPO, and am struggling. my goal is to load maps into my trail tech voyager pro so I know my way when riding trails . I was successful in doing that, but i have a few questions.

First and foremost what is the difference between a green line with red dots and a green line with black dots

IN my area the word PENNY PINES is right in the center of my map, how do i delete that word so I can see the tracks

Lastly is there an entry level instructional video on Cal topo? I watched a few but if you dont already know the lingo it doesnt help much

    Hi Jimmy,

Have you checked out our own user guide yet? There's a nice Getting Started Guide in there. However, we recently updated our interface and have not yet been able to update the screen shots in the user guide, so you will have to look around for where buttons and things moved to.

Here is a screen shot of the legend for the MVUM trails:

You can't delete the work Penny Pines, but you can probably go back and get a different base layer that might not have those words on it, and put that into your Voyager instead of which ever one you are using right now.

Hope that helps you get more comfortable with the program!
    Thanks,
    Julie

Hi Julie and thanks for the help. I was able to answer a couple of my questions via trial and error.  I can delete the word penny pines, i just have to lower the saturation.

I have been trying for the last 2 hours to accomplish a task and no success.

I found my base map and added my overlays. I plotted out a route and saved it.  I then went to print to MB tiles.  It took a few minutes.  Of which I noticed anything over 1000 tiles my PC times out.  Anything under a 1000 is fine. this file was around 800 maybe?

When I load it to my trail tech voyager I cant locate the section or the route that I created.  Its like its not even there.  Is this a caltopo issue or a trail tech issue?
I seem to be able to pull it back up under my saved files on caltopo, but cant find it when its on a map on the trail tech?

    HI Jimmy,

Sounds like you are finding your way around pretty well! I think the problem that you have run into is that there are two different file types at play here. When you download the MBTiles, they are only the background images. You'll also want to export your lines and choose the GPX type. That file will include line(s) that you drew. I believe you can then import that into your Voyager (I'm not super familiar with the Voyager but that's what I would expect.)

    Thanks,
    Julie
