Hi, I was wondering what resolution data you used to derive the slope shading?

    Hi Lindsey,

This layer incorporates data from the USGS National Elevation Dataset and high-resolution LIDAR data from the USGS 3DEP program where available. Curious if the area you’re looking at is using the high-resolution data? A live interactive map of 3DEP coverage can be found here.

You can read a bit more about the slope angle overlay at
    https://training.caltopo.com/all_users/overlays/overlay-desc#slope.

    Thanks,
    Julie

    Hi Julie,
Thanks for your response. I saw that you guys use 3DEP data but to my
understanding there are multiple levels of resolution of the 3DEP data. Do
you by chance know which one caltopo uses?

    Lindsey,
3DEP is mixed data set that includes 1m resolution 1/9 arc second, and 1/3 arc second, typically we use the highest resolution data where available.

Even with mixed resolutions however different methods of capturing data provide different levels of detail depending on if they are scaled up or down in resolution (LIDAR scaled up to 1/3 arc second is going to be much higher quality than 30m ASTER data interpolated to 10m as an example). Just knowing the data resolution doesn't necessarily indicate the quality of the data.

    Best,
    Ben
