I use Caltopo for backcountry ski mapping in New England. I noticed some important trails are no longer visible when making maps (Gulf of Slides Trail and John Sherburne ski trail. I am wondering if this is a system issue or something specific to my view in Caltopo. Thanks

    HI Kevin,

It's not anything about your view or access. I assume you are using the MapBuilder Topo layer?

The MapBuilder Topo layer is built with data from Open Street Map (osm.org). OSM is a wiki-style map that relies on users to add an edit data. Sometimes, map items get edited so that they have new/different tags or styles. Since we pull a selection of all the available tags and styles, and not everything, things sometimes get added or deleted when we pull an update from OSM.

I just took a look at the Gulf of Slides trail and found it on the Forest Service base layer, the scanned topos layer, and on the TF Outdoors one. So there are some other sources within CalTopo you can use for the missing trails. TF Outdoors is also from Open Street Map data, and does show that trail, but shows it as a winter ski trail. We are adding an overlay of ski routes soon and I'm curious to see if it shows up on that.
