Programmatic interface for viewshed calculations?

Is there a programmatic interface where I can calculate a set of viewsheds if I have a set of location_names, latitudes, longitudes, and heights above ground level?

Thanks

    Hi Frank,

Are you asking about calculating a set of Simulated Views or custom Viewshed layers?

    Thank you,
    Meghan

    Hi Megan,

I am looking for custom Viewshed layers.

    Thanks,

    Hi Megan,

I have been searching your web site for information on Simulated Views, but
can't find it. Can you point me in the right direction?

    Thanks,
    Frank

    Hi,
I'm sorry I'm confused by your responses you respond about custom viewshed layers but then again about simulated views, I've just attached both links. Information about both are found on our training site.

    https://training.caltopo.com/all_users/tools/measure#view simulated view

    Best,
    Ben

    Hi Ben,

I was unaware of the simulated view capability until I received Meghan's
email. Looks like it could be quite useful.

On the other hand, I have used the viewshed capability for years to help
evaluate sites for wildfire camera deployments for HPWREN
    <http://hpwren.ucsd.edu/cameras/wide-c.html> and ALERTWildfire
    <http://beta.alertwildfire.org/region/sdge/?camera=Axis-CuyamacaPeakNorth>.

My original question still stands, is there a way if I have a list of say
100 sites with latitudes, longitudes, and camera height above ground level,
that I can write a python script to generate viewsheds for those 100 sites?

    Thanks,
    Frank

    Frank,
I apologize, i didn't catch that. No. We don't support that sort of use, particularly related to high compute functions like viewshed.

    Best,
    Ben

No worries. I am currently headed to Haida Gwaii in British Columbia for a
sea kayaking trip. When I get back, I would like to pickup this
discussion. There are some applications which we could use which CalTopo
has existing solutions for which would be very useful in a fire lookout
    perspective.

    Thanks,
    Frank

I have a solution that may help. It's not Cal/SARTopo so I hope that's OK.

ArcGIS Pro can do interactive viewshed analysis. You can get the personal
version for $100, but if you're new to it, it's better to find someone who
already knows how to use it, as it's complicated.
Someone is already performing viewshed analysis on wildfire monitoring
    cameras here:
    https://prep-response-portal.napsgfoundation.org/datasets/5b4040338d704693994d5682ab2747c5_1/explore?location=37.250000%2C-119.750000%2C6.90
The data is maintained by CalOES so I'd contact them if you have any
    questions about it.
