Hello there - I use SARTOPO for SAR and would like to start using it for Prescribed Fire planning for the City of Roslyn and upper Kittitas County as well as for the WA Prescribed Fire Council. However, the inability to create a legend is problematic. Do you have a timeline for legends? Or a work around?

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for reaching out! Specifically what legends are you asking about? Are you asking about displaying legends for base layers and/or overlays on maps or PDFs? Custom legends? Or something different?

    Thank you,
    Meghan

    Chris,
    Fellow CalTopop user here.
    One workaround idea is.
    - From within CalTopo, create a geospatial PDF of the map you want to use, with desired layers and objects (markers, lines, polygons, etc.)
    - Open the PDF from an application that allows you to edit PDFs, and add a legend to the PDF.
    - Import the PDF with the legend you added into CalTopo as a Map Sheet

(You could also import the PDF with the legend you added into Avenza, if you or others prefer using Avenza rather than or in addition to CalTopo Map Sheets)

Just one idea to consider. I hope this is helpful.

Interesting - appreciate that approach and might give it a try!

Chris, More simply, you could create a Legends PDF/"document" with Legends for the layers you use, store that PDF or document on your device, and then as needed open it up on your device.

Also, here's an "article" about legends from another mapping tool that you might find useful, https://help.gaiagps.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003639928-Map-Legends.

    Hi Chris,
Meghan asked a few questions above since there are a variety of options for legends available in CalTopo including inserting a custom legend when you make a PDF or legends for each overlay available on the bottom of the screen. Let us know specifically what you were asking about and we can provide further information about the CalTopo platform and options.

    Ben
