Offset track with CalTopo app (SARTopo)
Hi,
First, I work for a fire service in north short of Montreal QC so I will try to have a good english for my question.
We use SARTopo desktop program for SAR and for a better tracking of teams on the field, they send they positions, and we mark these points, to follow them. I download the APP to test live tracking team position and my test track on road (walking and car driving) give me an offset between 0 to 15 meter, see the attached file, I was in my truck on road to do the track.
Add to this, for my personal knowledge, what is the signal APP use for the position, GPS or cellular towers triangulation.
Regards;
Ghyslain

Hi Ghyslain,
The mobile app uses your mobile device's internal GPS to find and track your location. It's important to remember that many factors can influence GPS accuracy, such as satellite geometry, signal blockage or reflection, weather and climate conditions, and the actual design and quality of the GPS receiver in the mobile device itself.
I've used the mobile app extensively to locate myself on the map and record mobile tracks and I have found the accuracy to be comparable to other GPS devices and apps.
If you would like to learn more about GPS accuracy, check out this blog post: Maps and Tracks: Accuracy, Precision, and your Phone GPS (Part 2).
Thanks for using SARTopo!
Meghan
