This article and much of our Knowledge Base now lives at the CalTopo training site. This specific page can be found here. Please go there for the most up to date information, as well as more comprehensive instructions for using CalTopo.

This article covers the creation, editing and deleting of objects in general. More specific help exists for the following object types:

  1. Markers
  2. Lines and Polygons.
  3. Specialized Objects. (Bearing Line, Buffer, Range Ring, Sector)

Creating Objects

You can add a object by:

  1. Selecting the “Add” menu on the top bar and then the object type.
  2. Or selecting “Add New Object” at the bottom of the left menu bar and then the object type.
  3. Or right-click a location on the map, click "New", then the object type.

A specific dialog for that object will appear. The dialog for a line is shown here. Fill in the attributes for the object.

Where applicable, click the Color and/or Style icon to change the appearance of the object.

If the object is a line or polygon, begin drawing the object. Once you have completed, the shape and its attributes will be saved. See the Lines and Polygons article for help on drawing shapes.

For all other objects, click "OK" and the object will be saved.

There are three ways to open the dialog to edit the object’s attributes:
