Page reload option settings

We were at a search, sartopo got bogged down/ would not update. So did a page reload and it was reasonably happy. Had to do this numerous times. Would be nice if settings could be saved on the local pc, such that upon reload, folders and objects within the folders would display or not as they were prior to the reload. Also, same view of the map. Could ask if this is desired, too.

    Steve,

Click the pencil icon next to the folder name, and uncheck the box for "display on page load."

    Cheers,
    Julie

Hi - in regards to Steve's request, the new 'display on page load' feature
doesn't really address the overall issue that Steve is shooting for and
that has always been the case: page reloads, when they are necessary to
resolve unknown or intermittent glitches of whatever type, cause delay.

After the page reload, the user has to go through the visibility checkboxes
for various folders (and maybe for various items) to set it up the same way
it was just before the reload.

My understanding is that the 'display on page load' feature was mainly
targeted at the daily-map-versus-composite-map distinction, or any other
situation when the map creator wants to reduce the clutter seen by other
users (searchers in the field), so that only the folders designated by the
map creator would be shown to other folks loading the map. This implies
forethought and choreography; the page reload has no forethought or
choreography, it's just an immediate-term solution to clear any temporary
    unknown glitches.

So maybe another way to word Steve's request is for a way to preserve the
visibility state (of all folders and other objects) across a page reload.
As Steve pointed out, it would be good for this 'map state preservation' to
include the base layer(s) and overlays, as with the old 'presets'.

    Thanks

I understand the request and I know Matt and the team do as well. I don't recall the exact reason we don't do this though - if it's difficult to develop or what. The folder checkboxes are super helpful in the meantime though.

Thanks Julie, that's really what we were hoping for is to just make sure it
stays on the wish list. From a multi-OP SAR point of view we would put a
fair amount of weight on the request, generally termed as "reduce the
productivity loss that happens when page reload is required for whatever
reason". Reducing the demand-side of that issue - reducing the
bugs/glitches/flukes that require a page reload - has definitely been
happening nicely over the years with all the support work going on, and no
doubt will continue to do so!

Just to close the loop, after re-reading and realizing it was not clear -
are there plans to add checkbox-state-persistence-across-page-reload? Also
just to be clear: the problem we were reporting based on our observation
and usage over the years (guessing that most other users must have had the
same issues from time to time, whether they reported it or not), where page
reloads are immediately needed and completely unexpected, the new 'If
checked, folder objects will be visible on page load' checkbox doesn't
actually address the issue at all - it is a great help for a totally
    different issue.

    Hi Tom,

Thanks for checking back in. I just checked in with the team and we plan to stick with the option to set folder default visibility for now. While I appreciate it doesn't directly address the specific issue you raise, setting the last checkbox state to automatically persist between page loads could also cause numerous issues when you have multiple users looking at the same map. We don't currently have plans to add this feature to the app but we appreciate you taking the time to share the potential use case and provide feedback!

    Thanks again,
    Meghan

The multi-user issues would definitely arise if it were persisted as part
of the database - we were only thinking it would be persisted/remembered by
the browsers. So maybe I'm mis-using the word 'persisted'.

    Hi Tom,
Not something we're going to do anytime in the foresee-able feature but we appreciate the feedback.

    Best,
    Ben
