What would you think is a reasonable amount of data traffic for sartopo CTD syncing with sartopo.com at a lite search? I know there could be a wide range; is 2G/hr to be expected?

    Steve,

It completely depends on what you are doing. Generally map objects are a pretty light data load and map layers are a heavy data load. Beyond that... ???? You'll just have to see.

    Best,
    Julie

I understand.  Just trying to get an idea on our activity at a specific time. Do you guys have any usage data of hits to your servers at particular times, etc. ThanksSent from my Galaxy

On Sept 18, Saturday, we used about 20G from 8am to 4pm.  Trying to find out if we hit your site at that rate for that period.  Or were there several high points during that time?ThanksSent from my Galaxy

    Hi Steve,

Sorry but I'm not going to be able to pull a developer off another task to try to find that data.

    Best,
    Julie

Julie,More regarding the data usage/rate seen at a recent SAR event:I have since received more information from our satellite service showing time of usage and thus have a couple of further questions.1) For the 4 settings (Highest, High, Medium, Low) in the caltopo app for "record track detail" what are the rates that points are gathered?2) Your server creates packets for the track point data and transmits it to connected browsers.  Is the data for each point sent as a separate post operation or are several grouped?  How many bytes of data are transmitted by the post operation per point or group of points, including data, headers, overhead, etc?
From the above and knowing how many tracks we were monitoring I can put together a picture of our usage. Thanks,Steve

    HI Steve,

    1. This varies per device; it's not something we fully control.
    2. The updates are grouped, and lines are sent incrementally
    3. Because the app is syncing data both ways, this isn't going to be trivial to calculate.

Some resources/ideas you may want to consider:
    - Android will tell you how much bandwidth your device has used in a day. - You can drill down and see how much a particular app has used in the last month. - You can setup a wi-fi access point, connect a phone to it while running a mock search, and read the data usage counter off the wi-fi point.

    Best,
    Julie
