MapBuilder raw data?

Hello,

I am interested in downloading the raw data for an entire trail system (~40-50 miles) so that I can analyze it using Python or similar. How did Caltopo acquire/import this raw data? Do you have any suggestions for downloading large trail system without manually mapping the entire system? Any feedback you have would be immensely appreciated!

Thanks,

Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

The trail data we use for the MapBuilder Topo is sourced from OpenStreetMap. We've copied their entire database though this is probably orders of magnitude more data than you're interested in -- you should check their documentation and figure out what method of data export works best for you!

Depending on the complexity of the trail system you're looking at, it may be simpler to use our snap-to feature to build a set of Caltopo map objects which you can then export as KML or another format that we support.
