Can I add a layer of Live Tracks from cell phones over a specific map? Can I track a firefighters approximate location live?

You can’t add a layer per say, but you can record tracks to a map in real-time from firefighters or field personnel. We also can import data out of Garmin inReach devices as well.

    Thanks Ben.
What I am actually trying to do is show the tracks and locations of racers during an adventure race. I use your mapping to make my race maps. I would like to have a live broadcast showing live race data. Do you think that would be possible?
    Thanks Craig

So the answer for this is potentially yes. We are actually looking at setting up an account type specifically for this use. Do you require people to have SPOT or inreach devices or is the entire race in an area there is cell service?

    Ben

    Thanks Ben,
I would prefer just using an app on a phone, such as US Topos. Spot trackers, in the past, have an issue in giving off false alarms to search and rescue. My plan would be to give a battery to each team, and have them use their phone and any active tracking app that would be compatible.
I've talked to Garmin about using their dog trackers, but they won't allow it to be displayed on a different map base.
I would love to work on this more with you all if possible.
    Thanks Craig.

You can use our CalTopo app on the phone to live write to a map. Let me write up a little blurb on how to enable tracking, but essentially you'll have to share the map with everyone and have them download the CalTopo app, they will be able to load the map you create and a password you share to unlock the map. Users can then click on record track in the bottom left corner and those tracks will show up live on the map. They have to have cell service for that to work, but the track will update as people come back into service range.

We do integrate Garmin inreach devices that are on professional plans if that was a use case you were interest in.

Disclaimer our app is still in beta though stable and functional. There have been occasional crashes and some lag issues on very large maps.

    Best,
    Ben

Yes better yet just have the team's use the Cal Topos app. I just downloaded it to my phone but can't seem to sync it with my existing account. I'm researching the In Reach right now. Thanks.

I would need 30-50 units, that could get a bit pricey.

Your existing account may be on SARTopo. You have to change to the SAR server on the very first page of the app at the bottom there is a dropdown that defaults to CalTopo. As for inreach units that's probably not a great option though there are companies that rent the units for races and events.

When is the race you're looking to track?

    Ben

I got Cal Topo to work on my phone now. I had to log in under my google account then resync Google to my phone.
I put on 8-12 ARs a year mostly in FL and AL. I have a race at the end of December at Oak Mountain State Park, Birmingham, AL.
I’m also working on setting up live team cams.
    Thanks Craig

Thanks. I would love to supply some input, or do any testing. A sample of what I'm trying to do is an app called "livelox", but those use orienteering map, which the user might need to make before being able to use the app.
    Thanks Craig
