Importing routes to Garmin GPS-too many waypoints

When uploading routes created on Caltopo to my Garmin 62ST, I get an error message to the effect “too many waypoints for use on road”. My created waypoints are only about fifty. The waypoints transfer ok, but not the route itself.

Garmin does limit the number of points a route can have, but it should be at least 250. The "on road" part of the error message sounds very specific and not something I've heard of before.

Is exporting the line as a track an option, or does it need to be a route?

I could try importing it as a track. I assumed tracks had more data points than a route.
I assume there is not a way to control the number of data points created in a route - or a track?

You can right click -> modify -> resample to reduce the number of points on a route / track (destructively, if you carefully traced over something then back it up using right click -> convert -> copy as before resampling).

    Thanks, I’ll try it.
