Magnetic model update

There was just an update to the magnetic model due to an acceleration in the movement of the magnetic pole. The result is a change in declination calculation. https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/news/world-magnetic-model-out-cycle-release

What does Caltopo use to calculate declination (and show it on the map information)? Has this updated?

The standard is NOAA's calculator: https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/geomag/calculators/magcalc.shtml

It uses the old model. We area aware of the change and will update at some point, but do not feel that it requires immediate action. The out-of-cycle update has gotten a lot of press, but the old model is not suddenly wildly inaccurate for most of North America, where CalTopo has coverage. Polar navigation might be a different story, but CalTopo doesn't have map coverage for the poles.
