On the top left of the map screen there is always the zoom in and out +/- buttons along with the circular shaped display with arrows for moving your map left, right, up, and down. I got on caltopo today and that circular display for moving my map is no longer there. I cannot figure out how to get it back. Can anyone help?

    Hi Luke -

Google pulled that option from their maps API and forced everyone into the two-button +/- style. The logic escapes me but I think it had something to do with having a constant style between mobile and desktop. I was using a slightly older version of Google Maps for the last 9 months or so in order to keep that zoom control around, but that's no longer an option.

I was considering trying to recreate it, since I prefer that style as well, but the switchover happened several weeks ago and you're the first person to complain, so I'm not sure how much demand there is for it.

Is there any way to navigate the map left/right/up/down without having that option anymore? Thanks

The normal way is to mousedown-and-drag; you can also use the left/right/up/down arrow keys for small movements like the arrow buttons used to do.
