what does the symbol 5 mw refer to on the current fire map application

    It's the fire radiative power in megawatts. You can use it to help guess whether a detection is legitimate or just a fluke, but aside from that it's probably not of much practical value unless you're a fire professional (I don't know if they even use it for much, since established fires rely on infrared overflights rather than MODIS, but it's in the dataset so I wanted to include it in the map layer).

    Thanks I am an engineer for a power utility and that was my first guess….but did not think Mega Watts was correct….thanks for the explanation.
