Bring back copy as a line (copy line to line)

Can this be brought back.

It was once a feature and worked great.

You could trace or create a line, then copy it and break it down as you wanted. Or copied a series of lines, then join them (and still had the original sections). This saved retracing lines.

Now all we can do is copy a line as a polygon, then copy the polygon as a line, then delete the polygon, then fix the line to remove the segment between the start and finish.

I'll think about it - honestly it was only due to technical difficulties filtering it out that the "copy as what the existing object already is" option was in the UI in the first place.

Particularly since you're referring to subdividing and joining lines, have you tried setting the "snap to" option to "Lines" (to the left of the layer control while drawing, or at the bottom of the config menu)? That sounds like it would be a better fit for your use case, since it would allow you to easily trace a new line over part of an existing line, or across several existing lines..
