Add Layers for Cell Phone Cover

To find out if there is cell phone cover in a specific spot, or how strong the signal is there, is important for SAR missions and when planning a risky hike (and maybe also to buy property). I tried to add Cell Phone coverage through custom layers, but all US carriers seem to have non standard tile structures (Z+1, Y+1, X+1) and it was not possible. Apps exist that will show you these types of maps, but it would be nice to have it integrated in CalTopo

Last I looked into this, none of the cell carriers offered their coverage maps as officially supported layers at stable endpoints. If someone builds one I'd be happy to include it - I agree that it would be super useful - but I'm not going to try to cobble together a layer based on scraping and combining multiple carriers' non-standard tilesets. Even when working with more stable / better supported layers, that approach has led to ongoing whack-a-mole efforts as the source datasets tend to frequently change underfoot.
