Can SARTopo preserve file titles on import?

Our SAR team has a specific naming convention we use for searcher tracks. All of our members name .gpx tracks and submit them (via email, for example). However, when these tracks are imported into SARTopo, the naming convention defaults to something else, completely unrelated.

For example, 01-AC-AE.gpx will be imported as "2020-08-09 12:13:13 Area AC." For a few team members, adjusting that name isn't a big deal. With a mutual aid search running over days or weeks, it's quite a bit of lost productivity having to perform house keeping on these imports.

Is there a setting in SARTopo that will allow it to preserve the file name?

Attaching an image of an importing file and the resulting same in SARTopo.

Thanks,
D.

    Hello,

You need to have the team members naming their tracks, rather than the full file. A GPX file can contain multiple objects, each with an individual name. Thus the import looks within the file for individual objects and the names associated with those. The track name you see on import is the name of the track that was recorded.

A couple of things that might help:
    - Have team members name their track when they start recording by using your naming convention. - On import, you can change the names of the tracks before importing (see attached image.) - Use the CalTopo app to record tracks directly to your map, having team members name their track with your convention at the start. No email/upload necessary in that case.

    Thanks,
    Julie
