Custom scale does not seem to work

When I try to print maps at 1:40000, the program switches itself back to 1:50000.

For many of the things I do, 1:40000 is a better compromise between getting enough terrain one page and readability than 1: 50000 or 1:25000.

The custom scale feature in old National Geographic state by state Topo programs and the old Delorme TOPO North America programs always worked fine for me.

    Hi Lawrence,

I just want to be sure we are on the same page here. The process you are going through is:

Select print from the top bar
    select scale custom
    enter 40000
move the red box to where you'd like it,
    add aditional pages if needed
    select generate pdf.

I ask because if you printing in another fashion, sometimes the map will adjust the scale to capture all of a line or other features you've drawn.

If you're following this process and getting the scale reset, could I please take a look at the map you're working on?

    Thank you for the assistance,
    Rom

I think I see my error. I may have been resizing the print box after I
entered the scale. I just tried it making sure to not resize the box and
it seems to work ok. Thanks!!

If you have the scale set to "custom" rather than "not fixed", it should not be possible to resize print boxes. If they are resizing for you with a custom scale, can you provide some details on how you're getting them to do that?

You are correct. I am not able to resize the box. I haven't been able to
replicate the problem tonight. It happened in the wee hours of the am so
the memory of exactly what I was doing is foggy. Thanks for the help.
