Fire activity in central Africa?

I'm not sure how exactly the fire activity marker are generated but I just happened to zoom out and noticed that a huge swath of central Africa and Madagascar is marked as on fire, I assume this isn't actually the case, see:

    I do not know exactly what it's from, but I believe the data is accurate. Remember that each marker indicates a hotspot detection in that grid cell, but it does not mean that the entire cell is on fire. For Africa, my best guess would be small-scale agricultural-related burning.
